Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild


Monthly Meeting Information


The Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild meets at the First Presbyterian Church,

1669 West Maple, in Birmingham. First Presbyterian of Birmingham is a very large

church on the south side of Maple between Southfield Road and Evergreen Road.

It is air-conditioned with a much larger meeting room, a built-in projection screen,

sound system and lots of parking!


There are 12 steps down into Knox Fellowship Hall, with a motorized lift on one

side of the stairs, so the room will be accessible to everyone.


Monthly general meetings for members of the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild

begin with socializing at 6:30 p.m. and programs from 7-9 p.m. on the

third Tuesday of the month (except December) at:

Membership is open to all persons involved in the study of beads, especially archaeologists, ethnologists and museologists, as well as collectors. The society publishes a bi-annual newsletter, 'The Bead Forum,' and an annual journal, 'Beads,' which is devoted to the publication of scholarly articles on various aspects of bead research. 'Beads' has color illustrated pages 80-104. Individual copies are $14.50, postpaid ($16.50 foreign). Back issues of 'The Bead Forum' (Nos. 1-25, through 1994) are available to new members. The Lampworker's Group is a study group of the Bead Society of Greater Washington. Members share information about working glass in front of a torch to make beads. They meet three to four times per year at each others' studios, and sponsor visiting lamp workers and special workshops.

Alice Scherer is the director. Ms. Scherer puts out a newsletter which is available at $20/four issues. The newsletter accepts advertising and classifieds, and she puts out special issues with extensive book reviews. Sample newsletter is $2.50.
